Azeri prime minister re-appointed
The Azerbaijani parliament on Tuesday approved Artur Rasizada`s re-appointment as prime minister.
Parliament Speaker Ogtay Asadov said President Ilham Aliyev had forwarded the nomination to the legislature for approval. The speaker further put the issue on voting without discussion. The candidacy was approved by 101 votes, with two lawmakers voting against it and one abstaining.
Rasizada was born in Ganja in 1935. From 1986 to 1992, he served as Azerbaijan`s deputy prime minister. He was appointed as first deputy prime minister in May 1996 and further as prime minister in November that year.
The sixth presidential election in Azerbaijan was held on October 15 and Ilham Aliyev was overwhelmingly re-elected for a second five-year term by gathering 88.73% of the votes. Under the Constitution, with the new head of state embarking on his duties, Azerbaijan`s Cabinet of Ministers resigned on Friday. President Aliyev thereby signed a decree empowering members of the incumbent cabinet to fulfill their duties until a new government is formed.
