Romanian Embassy in Baku, in its capacity of NATO Contact Point Embassy to Azerbaijan, has organized a round table on “NATO-Azerbaijan cooperation: state of affairs and perspectives”.

The event held on February 10 brought together ambassadors and diplomats from embassies of NATO countries in Baku and NATO Liaison Office for South Caucasus, Romanian Embassy said.

Daniel Cristian Ciobanu, Ambassador of Romania to Azerbaijan underlined that through organizing public diplomacy activities (conferences, round tables and seminars) Romania brings its contribution to intensification of political dialogue and cooperation between NATO and Azerbaijan.

Ciobanu said NATO-Azerbaijan cooperation has a strategic value. “Baku is a strong and valuable partner for North Atlantic alliance. Romania considers that the fourth cycle of Individual Partnership Action Plan (covering the period 2015-2016) opens large opportunities for further development of relations between NATO and Azerbaijan,” he said.

Jiri Preclik, Political Officer within NATO Liaison Office for South Caucasus informed the participants about the latest developments in NATO policy regarding Azerbaijan.

Other participants in the roundtable positively assessed NATO-Azerbaijan relations and expressed their confidence in perspectives of joint cooperation.

NATO and Azerbaijan are actively cooperating on democratic, institutional, and military reforms, and enjoy practical cooperation in various areas.

The cooperation plan between Azerbaijan and the NATO is set out in the Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) on Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan aspires to achieve Euro-Atlantic standards and get closer to Euro-Atlantic institutions. In this regard, supporting reform in the security sector and establishing democratic institutions are the key elements of the NATO-Azerbaijan cooperation.
