Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev received a delegation led by member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Vietnam, permanent member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee Communist Party Le Hong Anh on October 13, AzerTag state news agency reported.

Recalling with pleasure his official visit to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, President Aliyev stressed its importance in terms of being the first high-level official visit.

President Aliyev expressed his confidence that the visit of the Vietnamese delegation would contribute to the continuation of intense relations and the strengthening of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Vietnam.

Hong Anh, for his part, expressed his pleasure at his first visit to Azerbaijan and his meeting with President Aliyev.

He said Azerbaijan-Vietnam relations had good history, noting that President Ilham Aliyev`s first official visit to Vietnam gave a strong impulse to the development of the bilateral relations.

The parties noted that there were good prospects for the development of the cooperation between the two countries in a variety of areas, including trade, oil and gas, investment making, cultural and humanitarian fields.

During their visit to Azerbaijan, the Vietnamese delegation earlier met with First Deputy Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ziyafat Asgarov, members of the Azerbaijani Parliament's Committee on Law Policy and State Building and Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Azerbaijan, as well as the members of a working group on inter-parliamentary relations between Azerbaijan and Vietnam.

Vietnam recognized Azerbaijan's independence in December 1991. The two countries established diplomatic relations in September 1992.

Azerbaijan officially opened its embassy in Hanoi in December 2013. Vietnam does not have an embassy in Azerbaijan, which has made it difficult for Azerbaijani citizens to obtain visas. According to the new rules, Azerbaijani citizens only need to provide the relevant documents given by the Vietnamese travel agencies regarding their trip in order to get a visa.
