Senegalese official has voiced his country's interest in cooperating with Azerbaijan in combating drug-trafficking.
Deputy Director General of Senegalese Economy and Finance Ministry's General Customs Administration Noiaye Aliou said the cooperation with Azerbaijan's State Customs Committee (SCC) is of great importance for Senegal in terms of fighting against drug smuggling.
Aliou made the remarks in Baku, on September 8, at a meeting with a delegation led by the SCC Chairman Aydin Aliyev.
Aliyev briefed the Senegalese delegation on Azerbaijan's achievements in the area of customs, and noted that the SCC is one of the leading bodies involved in construction of an e-government.
He said Azerbaijan and Senegal are friendly countries, adding that his committee is ready to support Senegal in all areas of interest.
Aliyev also noted that the two countries have not yet signed any official documents at the government level. He suggested signing an agreement on cooperation in the training of personnel.
Aliou, for his part, said the Senegalese side is ready to spare no effort to implement Azerbaijani side's offer on signing the agreement soon, adding that his country will use this opportunity in order to succeed in the work of customs authority.
The protocol on establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries was signed on 14 March 1996.
Azerbaijan's extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador in Morocco Tarik Aliyev was also accredited as an ambassador in Senegal with the residence in the city Rabat on 11 December 2012.
