Honduras condemns the occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh, Honduran Foreign Minister Mireya Agüero de Corrales said at a joint press conference with her Azerbaijan counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov in Baku on May 8.

Corrales said the international community must react to the occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh, which amounts to stark violation of international laws.

Touching upon bilateral relations, she also noted that Azerbaijan and Honduras cooperate on an official level in the framework of international organizations.

"Currently, we are developing bilateral cooperation," she said. "I believe that relations between the two countries could extend in important areas," the foreign minister said, adding that the possibilities of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Honduras in such areas as finances, oil and gas, infrastructure and investment were discussed during her visit to Azerbaijan.

Elmar Mammadyarov, in turn, said Azerbaijan is opening a new chapter in relations with the countries of the Central America.

Following the meeting, Azerbaijan and Honduras signed a protocol on the mechanism of political consultations.

Earlier, the Honduran foreign minister met President of the country Ilham Aliyev. The meeting discussed the issues of mutual interest. The head of the state then presented Corrales the Dostlug (Friendship) Order of Azerbaijan in recognition of her contribution to the development of friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries.

Azerbaijan's Economy and Industry Minister Shahin Mustafayev also met a delegation headed by Corrales to discuss expansion of ties.

Mireya Agüero de Corrales met Azerbaijani Parliamentary Speaker Ogtay Asadov afterwards. The sides discussed prospects for bilateral political cooperation.
