President Aliyev meets chairman of Kazakh parliament's majilis

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev received a Kazakh delegation led by Chairman of the Majilis of the Kazakh Parliament Nurlan Nigmatulin on February 20.
During the meeting, President Aliyev said Azerbaijani-Kazakh relations had been rapidly developing. He recalled his recent meeting with Kazakh leader Nursultan Nazarbayev in Sochi.
The Head of State praised political relations between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.
President Aliyev also noted the role of parliaments in strengthening the bilateral cooperation. He said the two countries were actively cooperating both in bilateral format and in international organizations.
The Head of State said Nigmatulin's visit would contribute to broadening the two countries` relations.
Nigmatulin, in turn, said he was received by President Nazarbayev before embarking on a visit to Azerbaijan, adding the Kazakh leader told him to extend to the Azerbaijani President his greetings and best regards as well as his wishes for peace and prosperity of the Azerbaijani people.
Nigmatulin emphasized the role of friendly ties and mutual respect between National Leader Heydar Aliyev and President Nazarbayev in the development of the two countries' relationship.
He said that friendly contacts between the heads of state were presently contributing to expanding these relations as well.
The parties also discussed prospects for broadening Azerbaijan-Kazakhstan cooperation in various fields.
As part of the visit, Nigmatulin also met Parliamentary Speaker Ogtay Asadov and the sides discussed the issues related with the Azerbaijani-Kazakh relations, in particular interparliamentary ties.
Azerbaijanis and Kazakhs are both Turkish-speaking nations and share close historical, religious, and cultural ties. Both are the littoral states of the Caspian Sea and possess a common maritime border.
About 130,000 ethnic Azerbaijanis live in Kazakhstan.
A solid legal basis has been established between the two countries. Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan have signed more than 90 documents, including 20 documents in the economic field, particularly on investment protection and avoiding double taxation. These documents positively affect the development of trade relations between the two countries.
About 740 enterprises with Azerbaijani capital operate in Kazakhstan, while 35 companies with Kazakh assets work in Azerbaijan.
