Sweden to open embassy in Baku soon

The Swedish embassy will be opened in Azerbaijan's capital Baku in the first half of 2014, Swedish ambassador to Azerbaijan Mikael Eriksson told Trend Agency on February 13.

Eriksson said the embassy will be opened in a short time, adding that the official information in this regard will be made public in the near future.

Currently, the residence of the Swedish ambassador to Azerbaijan is located in Stockholm.

Earlier in 2013, a delegation headed by Sweden's State Secretary for Trade, Gunnar Oom visited Azerbaijan.

Gunnar Oom, during his meeting with Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov, highlighted the significance of increasing ties between business circles in expanding the two countries' cooperation and noted that Sweden has decided to open its embassy in Azerbaijan in the near future.

Sweden recognized Azerbaijan's independence on January 16, 1992. The diplomatic relationships between Sweden and Azerbaijan were established on May 8, 1992.

Sweden opened its honor consulate in Baku in February 1998. Azerbaijan opened its Embassy in Sweden in January 2008.
