Azerbaijani wrestlers bag about 300 medals in 2013

Azerbaijani wrestlers won 298 medals in different international competitions in 2013.

The wrestlers won 70 medals in official international competitions, including 17 gold, 15 silver and 38 bronze medals.

Moreover, they grabbed 228 medals from various international tournaments, including 75 gold, 56 silver and 97 bronze medals.

Recently, the ancient sport -wrestling- has been admitted to the Olympic Games, giving the Azerbaijani athletes more impetus.

Wrestling, practiced among 30 million people in 177 countries, will also be included in the inaugural European Games in Baku in 2015.

In 2013, Greco-Roman Wrestling Coach Ismail Chopsuev was named as the best coach of year. Meanwhile, Azerbaijan's Wrestling Federation was also awarded.

Azerbaijani freestyle wrestler Khetag Gazyumov was named as one of the best athletes of the last year in the country. He also secured a spot in the top ten list of the International Wrestling Association announced in accordance with results of the world championship in Hungary in 2013.

During the past 6 years, Azerbaijani wrestlers have won 129 medals (42 gold, 32 silver and 55 bronze) at the finals of international tournaments.
