Azerbaijan, EU may agree on simplification of visa regime in November
By Nigar Orujova
Azerbaijan and the European Union may sign a number of agreements on "strategic partnership", including the simplification of the visa regime, in November, Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmud Mammadguliyev said on September 18.
The agreements can be signed on the sidelines of the Eastern Partnership summit planned to be held in Vilnius, the Lithuanian capital, on 29-30 November, Mammadguliyev told reporters in Baku.
"Today the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the EU covers only the energy field," Mammadguliyev said. "We are preparing an agreement on Azerbaijan's modernization, which will also include spheres like transportation, agriculture, education, among others."
Mammadguliyev said his country may also agree to expand its participation in EU programs and forge closer cooperation between Azerbaijani and European agencies to help speed up institutional reforms in the Caspian Sea nation.
