Former OSCE PA head re-elected rapporteur on Garabagh
The former OSCE Parliamentary Assembly president Goran Lennmarker
has been re-appointed as the group`s special rapporteur on the
Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Upper (Nagorno) Garabagh, Armenian
media reported.
The incumbent head of the assembly, Joao Soares of Portugal, said the appointment was due to the fact that Lennmarker was well-versed on the conflicts flaring in the OSCE region, and the Garabagh dispute in particular.
Lennmarker was re-appointed on his own initiative and upon consent of the conflicting sides.
We recall that Lennmarker was initially appointed rapporteur on Garabagh at the OSCE PA session held in Vienna in February 2003. However, he quit the post after being elected president of the assembly in 2007, and the position remained vacant since then. However, Lennmarker continued fulfilling the duties of the representative on the Garabagh problem on his own free will. During his tenure, he prepared a special report on the conflict.
