President Aliyev holds official meetings in Austria

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met with Director-General of the United Nations Office in Vienna Yury Fedotov on May 14 as part of his official visit to Austria.

The sides underlined Azerbaijan`s contribution to the United Nations` activity as a member of the organization`s Security Council.

President Ilham Aliyev and Yury Fedotov stressed the importance of holding the UN-related events in Azerbaijan. They also discussed cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Nations Office in Vienna.

The president also met Executive Secretary of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO Preparatory Commission) Lassina Zerbo in Vienna.

Prior to the meeting, the Azerbaijani President viewed the International Data Centre of the CTBTO Preparatory Commission.

Lassina Zerbo thanked Azerbaijan for its support of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization, and informed Ilham Aliyev of the facility`s activities.

During the conversation, they discussed cooperation between the country and the organization.

The president met Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Kandeh Yumkella in Vienna on Tuesday.

Recalling his visit to Azerbaijan, Yumkella touched upon globalization and spoke about the trends in industry, energy and other fields, as well as problems faced by mankind. Highlighting modern challenges Yumkella spoke of unemployment problem in the world.

Stressing Azerbaijan`s economic development, President Ilham Aliyev underlined the decrease in the unemployment rate and creation of new jobs.

They exchanged views on the prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNIDO.

Ilham Aliyev also met with Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano in Vienna.

Yukiya Amano said the IAEA attached great importance to cooperation with Azerbaijan.

Amano said Azerbaijan was a reliable partner in the field of nuclear security. Protection of nuclear security was of particularly importance nowadays, he noted.

President Ilham Aliyev said nuclear security is not important only for Azerbaijan, it`s important for the region and the world, adding from this point of view activity of the Nuclear Power Plant in Armenia causes concerns.

The Head of State noted Armenia`s Nuclear Power Plant was a biggest threat for the region.

President Ilham Aliyev ended his official visit to Austria on May 14. The same day, Ilham Aliyev returned to Baku.
