Defense attaches impressed with Azeri military power
The diplomats of a number of countries lauded Azerbaijan's military might after attending a large parade of the country's armed forces on Thursday.
The military attache of Pakistan Muhammad Shahid Sharif said the event was held on a high level. He told local ANS TV channel that the displayed powerful military machinery and personnel indicated Azerbaijan's military was strengthening by the day and turning into a force that has a say in ensuring security.
Pakistan was one of the first countries to recognize Azerbaijan's independence.
Ukraine's military attache in Baku, Valeri Venger, said he had concluded from the parade he witnessed that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces meet the highest standards.
"The demonstrated machinery, ammunition and personnel, with the care provided by the state and commander-in-chief, is grounds to say that the Azerbaijani army is capable of accomplishing the most challenging tasks and professionally executing the highest orders, restoring the territorial integrity and safeguarding statehood. President Ilham Aliyev's efforts are clearly seen here. He is paying the closest attention to increasing the potential of the country's armed forces, which is commendable."
Venger said the participation of numerous military attaches at the parade showed once again that Azerbaijan's growing military power was drawing great interest of other countries. "Ukraine has always been Azerbaijan's close strategic partner, and we rejoice at its success."
Kazakhstan's attache Rimbek Tursagatov said the parade was a graphic example of the vast military potential of Azerbaijan and emphasized that the servicemen had been selected with a great degree of professionalism.
The US embassy spokesman Johnatan Henick spoke on behalf of his country's military attache in Baku.
"Naturally, the first military parade held in the past 11 years was a crucial event. We are strategic partners with Azerbaijan and are conducting military cooperation in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere. Azerbaijan has a very strong military," Henick said.
