Azerbaijani envoy hold talks with mayor of Finland`s city

As a part of his visit to the Northern region of Finland, Azerbaijan`s ambassador to Sweden, Norway and Finland Rafael Ibrahimov met on Wednesday a mayor of Rovaniemi city of Lapland province Esko Lotvonen.

The ambassador informed the mayor about Azerbaijan, its history, rich cultural heritage and economic progress.

The ambassador praised role of Azerbaijani diaspora in strengthening the bilateral ties with Finland.

They discussed prospects for cooperation between Baku and Rovaniemi cities.

The Mayor said Rovaniemi is famous for its gold and nickel deposits, noting that more than million tourists visit the city every year.

Lotvonen pointed out that there is a great potential for cooperation between the Baku State University and Lapland University. He also stressed significance of expanding relations between the two nations in the field of tourism and culture.

According to his visit program, Ibrahimov is expected to hold meetings in the Finnish Foreign Ministry and Parliament.
