State committee chair: Azerbaijan shows great interest in religion

Along with the growing interest in national values, Azerbaijan shows great interest in religion, chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations Elshad Iskandarov told media on Tuesday.

He stressed that relations between religion and the state are regulated at a very high level. Most of the population is satisfied with the work undertaken in this direction. The environment of tolerance in Azerbaijan is fully supported by the population, he added.

"It is necessary to enlighten the population in the sphere of religion," he said. "Not only must the State Committee, but the press deal with this. At present, the committee is carrying out this work."

He added that there are three priority tasks today. To regulate relations between state and religion at a level suitable for society, suppress the artificial spread of radicalism and actively enlighten the population to ensure the needs of society in religion.
