Pakistani president arrives in Azerbaijan for ECO summit

Pakistani president Asif Ali Zardari arrived on Monday in
Azerbaijan to participate in the 20th Economic Cooperation
Organization (ECO). The summit will take place in Baku on October
16-17.
Prior to Pakistani president's visit, the president of Iran Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad arrived in Azerbaijan with the same purpose.
ECO is an intergovernmental regional organization established in
1985 by Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey with the aim of promoting
economic, technical and cultural cooperation among member
states.
The organization was expanded in 1992 to include seven new members,
namely Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan,
Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
