7,000 Georgian citizens to vote at parliament elections in Azerbaijan

About 7,000 Georgian citizens living in Azerbaijan will vote at their country's parliamentary elections on October 1.

They will vote at a polling station at the Georgian embassy in Baku, the diplomatic mission told Trend news agency on Friday.

"The polling station will open at 8 a.m. on October 1," the embassy reported.

The registration of Georgian citizens living and working abroad for their participation in the parliamentary elections has been completed. The data were sent to the state commission in charge of specifying voter lists. Afterwards, they will be submitted to the central election body.

Around 45 polling stations will be opened abroad. The ballot stations will not operate in Iran and Jordan due to the small number of voters.

Only 42,600 Georgian citizens registered by the consular department are entitled to vote. The voters registered during the last few days will be added to the list.

More than 1 million people have recently left Georgia, and most of them reside in other countries as illegal migrants.

Georgian citizens living in Russia will not be able to vote as there are no ballot stations there due to the lack of diplomatic relations between the two countries. According to a number of sources, 500,000 to 700,000 Georgian citizens live in Russia.
