VP: Iran and Azerbaijan are brotherly states
Iran and Azerbaijan are brotherly nations, and no one can set them against each other, Iran's Vice President in charge of cultural heritage Sayed Hasan Mousavi said Thursday at a meeting with Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office (CMO) Sheikh-ul-islam Allahshukur Pashazade.
"Our enemies are concerned about the deep historical relations between Iran and Azerbaijan," Mousavi said.
He said Iran has always supported the position of Azerbaijan in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict with Armenia. The statement of the Non-Aligned Movement summit also stressed support for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
"Friendly and fraternal relations between Azerbaijan and Iran have always been strong and will be in the future," Mousavi said.
Mousavi invited Pashazade to visit Iran.
He also said that Iran's new ambassador will arrive in Azerbaijan in the near future.
Pashazade, in turn, said "we are witnessing fraternal relations between Azerbaijan and Iran". He thanked the Iranian side for the release earlier this week of two Azerbaijani poets who were detained in Iran in May allegedly on spying charges.
He said there are no problems between the two countries, while some minor issues are gradually being resolved.
Pashazade accused Armenia of seeking to estrange the two countries.
