Azeri FM to discuss Karabakh in Paris

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov will visit Paris on Monday, the ministry's spokesman Elman Abdullayev said at a press briefing on Saturday.

Mammadyarov will meet with members of the OSCE Minsk Group and discuss settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.

The Karabakh conflict emerged in 1988 over Armenia's territorial claims. The ensuing war claimed some 30,000 lives and displaced up to a million Azerbaijanis. About 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory has been occupied by Armenian armed forces since a ceasefire was signed in 1994. Peace talks, brokered by Russia, France and the U.S. through the OSCE Minsk Group, have been largely fruitless so far.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of Nagorno-Karabakh and the seven surrounding regions.
