Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement summit in Iran, Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry told Trend news agency.

Issues of bilateral cooperation and prospects of their development were discussed. Larijani said Iran is interested in strengthening relations with Azerbaijan, adding that Tehran supports the independence and territorial integrity of the country.

The Azerbaijani foreign minister spoke of the current state in the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.

The minister noted the importance of the liberation of Azerbaijani territories from Armenian occupying forces. Azerbaijan will ensure its territorial integrity sooner or later, he said.

Mammadyarov also raised the issue of Azerbaijani poets Farid Huseyn and Shahriyar Hajizada, who were detained in Iran over three months ago. He expressed hope that the issue would be resolved soon, adding that the government and people of Azerbaijan were gravely concerned in this regard.
