Azeri first lady gets Russian honorary title
Azerbaijan’s First Lady, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Mehriban Aliyeva, has been awarded the title of honorary professor of a world-known Moscow-based university.
The award, granted by the I. M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University, marks the special merits and significant contribution of Mehriban Aliyeva, UNESCO and ISESCO Goodwill Ambassador, in addressing global health and environment challenges, as well as in maintaining peace and humanism, the university’s principal, PhD in medical sciences, Piotr Glybochko, wrote in a letter.
Glybochko noted that Aliyeva's charity undertakings are appreciated in Russia. The Russian office of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, jointly with an Azerbaijani youth organization, implements a number of important projects, including "Cancer has no nationality," "Youth against AIDS and drug addiction," "Make sure you are healthy", as well as conducts charitable activities in hospitals, orphanages and care homes.
The letter also says that Aliyeva's participation in vital programs aimed at protecting mothers and children, fight against thalassemia, child diabetes and other diseases is very valuable.
"It is very significant and pleasant for us that our graduate, Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva, promotes and raises the prestige of the I. M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University with her activities on an international scale," the letter says.
The title of Honorary Professor of the University, which is known well in the world by its graduates, who are authoritative scholars and public figures in the medical sphere, has so far been awarded to only two people - world-famous cardiologist Yevgeny Chazov and world-famous cardiac surgeon Leo Bokeria.
