Date of Azerbaijan-EU talks on visa rules set
Negotiations on simplifying visa regulations between Azerbaijan and the European Union will be held on March 1-2, Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmud Mammadguliyev told journalists on Thursday.
Though the first meeting to discuss the issue was previously scheduled for early February, it was postponed due to inclement weather.
Roland Kobia, head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan, told reporters that the visa regime will be simplified primarily with the countries where large numbers of Azerbaijani citizens temporarily reside and study.
The EU council of ministers issued a mandate to the European Commission in December 2011 to start negotiations on visa facilitation with Azerbaijan.
The list of suggested visa facilitations include the simplification of documents to be submitted with the visa application, possible issuance of long-term multiple-entry visas, as well as a possible exemption from visas for diplomats.
