Islamic group expected to pass resolution on Karabakh

A draft resolution on Armenia’s military aggression against Azerbaijan and the occupation of the Azerbaijani region of Nagorno Karabakh is expected to be passed at a session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) parliamentary union, due January 25-31 in Palembang, Indonesia, a lawmaker who will represent Azerbaijan at the event says.

MP Sabir Rustamkhanly, chairman of opposition-leaning Civil Solidarity Party, told AssA-Irada that the OIC has always displayed "sensitivity" to the occupation of Nagorno Karabakh and participants of the session will place an emphasis on the issue.

Rustamkhanly said discussions will also focus on the issues regarding Palestine, as well as Syria and Libya’s occupied territories, the protection of Sudan against outside interference, and the situation in Somalia. The agenda also includes stepping up anti-terror combat efforts, promoting unity to counter threats to Islamic values, and joint efforts in warding off the impact of the world financial crisis on Islamic countries.
