Three Azeri traffic policemen sacked over graft
Three employees of Azerbaijan’s traffic police department who were video-taped while taking bribes have been dismissed, Interior Ministry spokesman Sadig Gozalov has said.
The Prosecutor-General's Office launched an investigation after being informed about the violations committed by the three sergeants.
Over 30 traffic policemen were dismissed from interior bodies over corruption-related violations in 2011.
In an effort to ensure transparency in the work of traffic police, changes have been made to Azerbaijan’s laws which stipulate that 25 percent of the funds collected from fines for traffic violations is added to the salaries of traffic police officers.
