Azerbaijani and Armenian students got into a fight at a function held in a Russian university.
During a festival that traditionally took place at the University of the Friendship of Nations in Moscow on Thursday, students from all over the world presented the culture of their nations. Tension rose after Azerbaijan's music was presented as that of Armenia.
Eyewitnesses said Azerbaijani students had accused Armenians of appropriating their nation's cultural heritage, after which Armenians started chanting insulting anti-Azerbaijan slogans. The sides exchanged verbal insults, followed by inundation with plastic bottles and stones. Stand-off resulted in some casualties, Russian media reported.
The law enforcers succeeded in preventing the premeditated Armenian provocation. Police officers removed the fighters from the university building and broke up the fight.
Furthermore, air gun fire was opened at the police officers from a car several times. The violators who were identified as Armenians were detained and the gun was impounded.
Four Armenians were reportedly arrested.
A similar clash took place at the same university last year. An Azerbaijani student received a gun wound as a result of the clash.
