(Newswires, August 11) – Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has issued a protest to Iran over "unreasonable statements made by the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Seyyed Hassan Firouzabadi toward the Azerbaijani leadership and people", APA reported on Thursday.

Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said the statements by Mr. Firouzabadi were posted on August 10 issue of the Iranian Fars news agency.

Iranian ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mr. Mohammad Bagher Bahrami, was summoned to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry on Thursday, where he was delivered a protest note by the Deputy Foreign Minister Nadir Huseynov.

The Foreign Ministry’s note expressed strong protest against Iranian official’s irresponsible slanders, noting that "publication of such statements against the Azerbaijani people and government contradicts the existing friendly relations between the two countries and their mutual obligations".
