111th ‘anniversary’ of hamburgers marked in Baku
BAKI – The 111th "anniversary" of hamburgers, considered the most popular food in the United States, was marked at Park Bulvar Mall in Baku on Wednesday.
As part of the event, organized by the US embassy in Azerbaijan and Park Bulvar Mall, a cooking contest took place. Three Azerbaijani and three American chefs tried to cook the tastiest hamburger. Judging the contest was a panel consisting of three people from each country – famous Azerbaijani singer Aygun Kazymova, rapper Malik and well-known TV host Murad Arif as well as US embassy representatives. Under the panel’s decision, an American chef won the contest, while an Azerbaijani one took second place.
The winners received coupons for dinner at a Baku restaurant and tickets for Saturday’s concert of Aygun Kazymova and Deyirman rap band. The first-place winner was also granted the title of "Burger champion of Azerbaijan".
A hamburger eating contest was held as well.
Part of the cooked hamburgers were distributed among the viewers, while the rest were sold at the Best Food restaurant in Park Bulvar with a 50 percent discount.
The event was joined by 20 kids from an orphanage in Baku.
Park Bulvar’s public relations manager Gunay Nazarova said the event marking the hamburger’s "anniversary" was of great interest to residents of the Azerbaijani capital, adding that such projects will be continued.
