UN to table situation in Azeri occupied land
WASHINGTON D.C. – The situation in the Armenia-occupied territories of Azerbaijan has been included in the preliminary agenda of the United Nations General Assembly’s session, due to begin on September 14, according to the UN website.
About 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory, including Nagorno Karabakh, has been under the occupation of Armenian armed forces since a fragile ceasefire was signed in 1994 following a brutal war.
The agenda of the 66th UN GA session also includes protracted conflicts in other member states of GUAM, a group of Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova, and their impact on international peace, security and development.
The mentioned issues were not tabled during the assembly’s last session and were therefore put on discussion again.
