Washington offers to protect Azerbaijan’s energy infrastructure
BAKU – The United States sees safeguarding energy infrastructure as a field that requires its close cooperation with Azerbaijan and aims to make progress in this area, US Assistant Secretary of State Andrew Shapiro said on a visit to Baku Friday.
Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov, speaking of prospects for such cooperation, said the concept of security "has many meanings".
"This concept covers such issues as ensuring the security of infrastructure, taking action to prevent illegal transportation, and energy security. Azerbaijan’s cooperation with the U.S. is possible in all these areas. And the U.S. is ready to assist us in all these matters."
Azimov said the two countries are already implementing a number of joint programs in the mentioned fields.
