Aliyev hosts EU energy commissioner
BAKU – Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Monday met European Union commissioner for energy Gunther Oettinger.
The importance of the 18th International Caspian Oil & Gas Exhibition & Conference Incorporating Refining and Petrochemicals was emphasized at the meeting.
They expressed confidence the exhibition would contribute to expanding international energy cooperation.
President Aliyev and commissioner Oettinger praised the cooperation between Azerbaijan and EU in various fields, particularly energy one. They exchanged views on how to deepen this cooperation.
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov also met EU commissioner Oettinger.
The sides discussed the prospects of energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and EU, regional energy projects.
Mammadyarov said that Azerbaijan’s energy projects are aimed at supplying the world markets with additional energy resources and prefers diversification in delivering energy resources.
Mammadyarov stressed the importance of the deal signed between Azerbaijan and EU during European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso`s visit to Baku early this year.
Oettinger said Azerbaijan plays an important role in ensuring Europe’s energy security and mentioned the importance of developing cooperation between the country and the EU.
