BAKU – Electronic services minimize contact between government officials and citizens and remove conditions suitable for corruption, an Azerbaijani presidential administration official has said.

Fuad Alasgarov, who sits on the state anti-corruption commission, was commenting on President Ilham Aliyev’s decree on arranging the provision of electronic services by government agencies, which was enacted on Monday.

Alasgarov said the presidential decree should be considered part of the efforts to fight corrupt practices and ensure transparency in the work of state bodies.

"The measures envisioned by the decree are part of the systemic reform in the area of combating corruption. Implementing electronic services will be one of the important measures in this area."

Alasgarov said that according to the president’s orders, within three months an electronic service will be operating on the website of each government agency.

"Anyone will be able to access a relevant section of the Web page and send electronically the scanned copies of the properly filled-out application and required documents," the presidential administration official added.
