Azerbaijan, Romania to sign military deal this year
BAKU – Azerbaijan and Romania have agreed to sign an agreement on military cooperation by the end of 2011, Romanian President Traian Basescu said at the end of his two-day official visit to Baku on Tuesday.
The two countries are currently drafting the protocol, Basescu told Azerbaijan’s state television channel AzTV.
"Our relations are developing in a variety of fields," he said. "Azerbaijan serves as a bridge between the Caspian region and Europe. At the same time, we have established very good relations with other regional countries - Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. But Azerbaijan is our number one partner in this region."
Basescu added that Azerbaijani officers undergo training at a military academy in Bucharest.
