25 February 2011 11:00 (UTC+04:00)

BAKU – Two Azerbaijani opposition parties have agreed to establish a bloc to jointly run for future elections.

Under an agreement signed on Thursday by the leaders of Umid (Hope) and Azerbaijan Democratic Party (ADP) to set up the Garabagh bloc, the parties pledged to nominate common candidates for the presidential elections in 2013, local polls in 2014 and the parliamentary elections in 2015, Umid said.

ADP, led by Sardar Jalaloglu, was founded in the town of Nakhchivan in 1991. It is a left-wing party pursuing liberal values.

The Umid party was established in 1993. It merged with the Civil Unity Party in 2002. Igbal Aghazada has chaired the party since 2002.
