Armenian composer under fire over `liking Azeri music`
YEREVAN – A young Armenian composer has come under pressure in his country after saying he is fond of Azerbaijani music, Radio Liberty's Armenian Service reported.
Vagram Petrosyan also claimed that Armenian music is close to that of Azerbaijan.
Head of Armenia's union of composers, Robert Amirkhanyan, is among those riled by Petrosyan’s remarks.
"This is nothing but ‘a Vagram syndrome’," Amirkhanyan said. "No composer would ever express such an opinion. It is naive and ignorant. I am talking about a threat to national dignity here."
Petrosyan’s remarks have also been met with terse criticism on social networking websites.
Azerbaijan and Armenia have been locked in conflict for two decades.
