Scores of Azeri, Armenian schoolchildren clash in Russia

7 October 2010 09:02 (UTC+04:00)

BAKU – Scores of Azerbaijani and Armenian schoolchildrens clashed in Russia after an argument over the Upper (Nagorno) Karabakh conflict.

The fight flared up after an Armenian boy came to class wearing a shirt saying "Our Karabakh" at a school in the Russian town of Tumen, Russia’s Islamnews website said. The Azerbaijani schoolchildren were angered by the move, and a dispute followed.

A traumatic weapon was brought to the scene, and one of the teens received a wound in his ear.

Law enforcers had to interfere to prevent the brawl from becoming more violent.

The region’s committee for ethnic issues managed to reconcile the youngsters after calling the leaders of the Azerbaijani and Armenian diaspora.

Azerbaijan and Armenia have been locked in conflict for two decades.
