Presentation of book 100 Moments of Heydar Aliyev's Life held at UN Office in Geneva
On the 100th anniversary of the birth of Heydar Aliyev, founder of the independent state of Azerbaijan, world-famous politician and statesman, who impressed the world with his great political achievements, the book "100 Moments of Heydar Aliyev's Life" published in Azerbaijani and English languages within the framework of the international project "Publication of books dedicated to the legacy of great leader Heydar Aliyev" was presented at the UN Office in Geneva, Azernews reports, citing Azertag.
The presentation was jointly organised by the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva, the United Nations Office in Geneva, the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the UN Office in Geneva and other international organisations, as well as the international magazine "My Azerbaijan".
Addressing the presentation ceremony, Director General of the UN Office in Geneva Tatiana Valovaya noted Heydar Aliyev's role in the development of relations between the UN and Azerbaijan, taking into account that it is the most influential and universal organisation in the world, and having deeply and comprehensively analysed political events and processes taking place in the region, talked of his efforts to represent Azerbaijan in international organisations.
Head of the Office of the Director General of the United Nations Office in Geneva and member of the editorial board of the book "100 Moments of Heydar Aliyev's Life" David Chikvaidze, sharing his impressions of his meetings with Heydar Aliyev, said world-known politician Heydar Aliyev, as a wise state builder, with his skilful, steady and successful management and strategic activity was able to strengthen the bright future of his country and people in the long term.
D.Chikvaidze noted that he first visited Azerbaijan in December 1994 as a member of the UN delegation to discuss the humanitarian needs of the country in difficult times.
"The delegation was received by President Heydar Aliyev, who had just returned to power to save his country and lead it out of the deep crisis it had fallen into after the collapse of the USSR. Heydar Aliyev personally greeted each member of the UN delegation. He deeply analysed the situation in the country and spoke about the impact of the situation on the South Caucasus and the whole of Eurasia, and this impressed us very much. We knew that he was not an ordinary politician but an important figure in modern history," Chikvaidze added.
Noting that the foundations of the state created by Heydar Aliyev continue to be strengthened under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, D.Chikvaidze said: "Azerbaijan is also an active and constructive member of the UN."
Author of the book "100 Moments of Heydar Aliyev's Life" published in Azerbaijani and English languages, editor-in-chief of the international magazine "My Azerbaijan", corresponding member of the International Academy of Sciences Emil Nasirli, speaking at the awarding ceremony, said great leader Heydar Aliyev saved the country from the danger of disintegration and made Azerbaijan one of the famous, stably developing countries of the world. The meaningful life path, and rich and diverse heritage of national leader Heydar Aliyev, who won immortality with his exceptional merits, is a school of inexhaustible samples.
Talking of our great leader's honourable life path and his historical merits to our Motherland, Emil Nasirli said Heydar Aliyev's far-sighted domestic and foreign policy in the years of leadership of Azerbaijan has increased our country's authority in the international world, achieved comprehensive development and ensured our eternal and irreversible independence.
The author of the book, noting that the national leader was a very capable, extremely experienced head of state and a mature political figure, said the great son of Azerbaijan always impressed people with his ability to successfully and with great skill cope with difficult and complex tasks. Steps taken towards the expansion of bilateral and multilateral political ties are of great importance in the systematic integration of our country into the world community. In this regard, the "Contract of the Century" signed on 20 September 1994 on the exploitation of oil fields in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea gave a powerful impetus to deepening the relations of our state with the countries of the world and strengthening its international positions. "Contract of the Century" and numerous oil contracts signed in subsequent years by Azerbaijan accelerated its integration into the world community. "The Baku International Conference on Restoration of the Historic Great Silk Road held on 7-8 September 1998 with the participation of representatives of 32 countries and 13 international organisations and its outcome is one of the most important achievements of Azerbaijan's foreign policy department," Emil Nasirli said.
It was emphasised in the speeches that the book "100 Moments of Heydar Aliyev's Life" is one of the rare publications in terms of conveying the truth about Azerbaijan to the world, as well as providing detailed information about the life and activity of world-known politician and statesman Heydar Aliyev.
The first presentation of the book "100 Moments of Heydar Aliyev's Life" was held on May 5 at the Ataturk Centre in Baku. Presentations in foreign countries were held in Istanbul, Paris and Geneva.
