Azerbaijani president meets with Croatian premier in Davos
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković in Davos on January 19, Azernews reports.
President Ilham Aliyev invited the Croatian premier to Azerbaijan and the invitation was kindly accepted. The discussion focused on the demining cooperation proceeding from the mine-removing experience of Croatia, which was also contaminated by mines.
The president said Armenia had planted a great number of mines in the territory of Azerbaijan during 30 years of occupation and underscored that some 300 Azerbaijan citizens were killed and wounded by mines since the end of military operations - on November 10, 2020.
He added that the Azerbaijani Mine Action Agency had implemented large-scale mine clearance operations and Azerbaijan cooperates with Croatia in mine removal and purchased a variety of demining equipment from Croatian companies. The sides underscored the importance of deepening mine clearance cooperation.
The parties also touched upon energy cooperation, in particular, the Azerbaijani-EU strategic energy partnership, and highlighted Azerbaijan's continued efforts to increase gas exports to the European energy market.
