European court heard seven cases on Azerbaijan in 2009
The European Human Rights Court reviewed seven cases
on Azerbaijan in 2009, with all rulings issued in favor of the
citizens filing lawsuits, the Supreme Court Chairman Ramiz Rzayev
has said.
He told a press conference Tuesday that the Azerbaijani government has fully enforced three of these rulings, which have gone into effect, while the other four rulings will be executed immediately upon their taking force.
Rzayev noted that the European court has heard 26 cases on Azerbaijan since the country entered its jurisdiction in 2002, and 23 of the decisions were handed down in favor of the plaintiffs. All of the rulings have been enforced.
The court chairman dismissed as baseless the allegations about the government’s failing to enforce the rulings, adding that in this case Azerbaijan could face terse sanctions.
Rzayev also said the number of cases heard in the Supreme Court last year increased 10 percent to 4,862 in comparison with 2008.*
