Russian, US Minsk Group co-chairs in Baku
The Russian and US co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group brokering
settlement to the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Upper (Nagorno)
Garabagh, Yury Merzlyakov and Robert Bradtke, are in Baku to hold
talks with officials. France’s Bernard Fassier was expected to
arrive in the Azerbaijani capital late on Thursday.
The mediators’ meetings with Azerbaijani leaders will be held on Friday. They are scheduled to hold talks with President Ilham Aliyev and Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov. Discussions will focus on the updated version of the Madrid principles, a proposed peace outline brought forward in late 2007, as well as arranging the next meeting of the Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents.
Local media reported that, this time, the intermediaries will visit only Azerbaijan, without holding meetings in Armenia, due to the Armenian leadership’s absence from the country.*
