Garabagh mediators to negotiate leaders’ talks again
The OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs brokering settlement to the Upper (Nagorno) Garabagh conflict are expected to visit the region, following their recent visit to Azerbaijan and Armenia, to negotiate the upcoming meeting of the two countries’ presidents, the US co-chair Robert Bradtke’s office told Armenia Today news agency.
The mediators – Yury Merzlyakov of Russia, Bernard Fassier of France and Robert Bradtke of the United States – last visited the region November 4-6. The co-chairs said that, during the talks, Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Serzh Sarkisian had expressed their readiness to continue negotiating basic principles of the conflict settlement and accepted the co-chairs’ proposal to hold the next round of talks by the end of November.
The mediators’ forthcoming visit to the region presumably aims to determine the venue and date for the presidential talks. Panarmenian.net news portal has quoted informed sources as saying that the meeting will take place in Europe. Some commentators suggest that Presidents Aliyev and Sarkisian could meet in Switzerland.
The two leaders last met on the sidelines of a CIS summit in Chisinau, Moldova on October 8.*
