Azerbaijan issues protest note to Iran
The Azerbaijani government has handed a note
expressing protest to Iran over biased reports aired by the
neighboring country`s official broadcaster.
Iranian Ambassador in Baku, Mahammad Bagir Bahrami, who was hosted by Deputy Foreign Minister Vagif Sadigov, was told that the websites of Iran`s radio and TV broadcasting body and the Seher TV channel it runs on Sunday posted a video-clip and an article deliberately distorting Baku`s policy and crudely insulting the Azerbaijani flag. Moreover, the materials contained slanderous allegations aimed against Azerbaijani officials and legislators.
Sadigov said his government was deeply troubled by the airing of such content by Iran`s official media.
``Such materials have been carried in the formal Iranian media outlets in the past, and the Azerbaijani side has repeatedly voiced concern to that end. Lately, the amount of such insults and slander has grown and trampled the limits,`` the deputy minister said.
Sadigov warned that such unacceptable actions might have a considerable impact on his country`s relations with Iran. ``Azerbaijan insists that the Iranian side investigate the reasons of the developments and inform the Azerbaijani side of the outcomes; thwart such phenomena and take action to prevent their reoccurrence.``
Bahrami vowed to inform his government about the meeting held at the Foreign Ministry and the protest note issued to Tehran.
