Ceasefire breaches persist - defense ministry
Ceasefire violations have been recorded 199 times on
the contact line between Azerbaijani and Armenian troops during the
past three months, according to Azerbaijan Defense Ministry
spokesman Eldar Sabiroghlu.
At a news conference on Friday, Sabiroghlu said that the Azerbaijani military is the most powerful force in the Caucasus, which has been confirmed by foreign experts and representatives of international organizations.
``The Azerbaijani army is capable of repelling the enemy under any extreme conditions. The target is to free our land from [Armenian] occupation.
``Political talks are ongoing, for the time being, and we are hopeful about their outcomes. Otherwise, our army will definitely fulfill its duties. Supplying our military units with up-to-date weapons and machinery and the high combat readiness of our soldiers are grounds to say that,`` he said.
Azerbaijan and Armenia fought a lengthy war that ended with the signing of a ceasefire in 1994, but Armenia continues to occupy Upper Garabagh and seven other Azerbaijani districts in defiance of international law.
