No bomb found in train following madman`s warning
Law enforcement officers received an anonymous
warning last Wednesday evening that a bomb had been allegedly
planted on a speeding train traveling from the Azerbaijani capital,
Baku, to the western district of Aghstafa.
The train, which departed from the railway station of Baku, was stopped at 11 p.m. in the Bilajari settlement, immediately after the warning had been issued, and passengers were safely evacuated. No explosives were found during a search.
Munasib Maharramov, acting chief of the Main Police Department at the Railway Transport, says a suspect has been detained with connection to the bomb threat hoax. However, his identity has not been disclosed.
"That individual was seen walking in the railway station area repeating `I have planted a bomb at the train, and it will explode in a little while`. When he saw approaching police officers, he told them as well that he had planted a bomb there."
There are some reports suggesting that the suspect is mentally ill. Another presumption is that the man became angry after being unable to buy a train ticket for himself or the underage child who was with him, due to the lack of an identification document, and then issued the false bomb warning.
