Popular website to resume ops
Day.az, Azerbaijan`s most popular Russian-language
news website that had recently suspended operations will be back on
track on February 25, its chief editor, Elnur Baimov, said.
According to Baimov, day.az, its English-language version, today.az, and day.az-radio online radio station will be available again beginning on that date.
"Work is underway to solve the technical problem that caused the suspension," he added.
The two web-pages have been unavailable since last Wednesday. After the website published an interview with Boris Berezovsky, an oligarch living in Britain, which contained criticism of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, some maintained that political reasons caused the halt in the website`s operations. However, a senior official dismissed such reports regarding alleged pressure from Azerbaijani authorities.
Day.az was founded by parliament member Anar Mammadkhanly. The web-page has been available since 2004.
