Azerbaijan shoots down two Armenian Su-25 fighter jets

The Air Defence units of the Azerbaijani Army shot down two Armenian Su-25 fighter jets on October 17 and 18 the Defence Ministry has reported.

One of the fighter jets was shot down while attempting to attack Azerbaijani soldiers close to the city of Jabrayil at around 11:11 am local time.

The second Su-25 was shot down on October 18, at 12.30, in the same direction, the Defence Ministry has reported.

Azerbaijan also destroyed the S-300 anti-aircraft missile system as well as the S-125 anti-aircraft missile system of the Armenian armed forces on October 17, according to the information provided by the Defence Ministry’s press service.

On the same day, the head of the engineering service, Colonel of the Armed Forces of Armenia Ashot Gazaryan was neutralized by the Azerbaijani Army.

The military operations of the Azerbaijani army come after Armenia launched missile attacks on Azerbaijan's Ganja on the night leading to October 17, killing 13 civilians and injured 52 others. Apart from Ganja, Armenia also fired rockets at Azerbaijan’s industrial Mingachevir city not far from Ganja at about 01:00 am, aiming at the Mingachevir Hydro Power Station, the largest thermal power plant in the South Caucasus.

The missiles were intercepted by the Air Defense Forces of the Azerbaijani army, the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan.

The tension between Azerbaijan and Armenia intensified following Armenian attacks on Azerbaijani positions and civilians on September 27. Azerbaijan launched a counter-offensive operations along the line of contact. 60 Azerbaijani civilians have been killed on Armenian attacks on civilian infrastructure since September 27.
