The houses that were destroyed by the Armenian shelling in Tartar district during the April fighting are now being repaired, the district Executive Authority said.

The repair and reconstruction work is being carried out in accordance with an executive order of President Ilham Aliyev. “Five houses have already been reconstructed, while 15 more repaired,” the Executive Authority said. “Three houses are now being restored, and three more are being repaired.” “Severely-damaged infrastructure on the Fikrat Amirov Street, as well as power and gas lines are being repaired.”

A total of 51 houses of IDPs were among those damaged by the Armenian shells in Tartar in April.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts. The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations.

Armenia still controls fifth part of Azerbaijan's territory and rejects implementing four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and surrounding districts.
