Baku to host Museum week for students

The Museum Week for Students runs in Baku as part of the International Museum Day – May 18. The event started on May 12 will run till May 18.

International Museum Day is held annually on May 18 since 1977 and is now being celebrated in more than 150 countries. The topic of 2015 is: “Museums and sustainable development of society”.

The project "Week of museums for school-children," was launched under a new interactive and educational program - "Museums and Environment”, with the initiative of the National Center for environmental education and the Education Ministry of Azerbaijan jointly with the National Commission of Azerbaijan for UNESCO.

The main objective of the program is to introduce the scientific cultural, historical, ecological and ethnographic aspects of the rich material and collections from all leading museums in the country to young audiences.

For the successful implementation of the program the Culture and Tourism Ministry, the Heydar Aliyev Center and the Office of the State Historical-Architectural Reserve "Icherisheher" have come together to support this program.

The program’s official presentation was held on May 12 at the National Museum of Arts - Azerbaijan. The opening was attended by the deputy education minister of Azerbaijan, Firudin Gurbanov, the first secretary of the National Commission of Azerbaijan for UNESCO, Gunay Efendiyeva, representatives of the Culture and Tourism Ministry, the State Historical-Architectural Reserve "Icherisheher", museum directors, teachers and students.

Special themes for each museum have been identified for this pilot project, interconnecting the entire program together. This program is designed for future training center with the Methodist concept of sustainable development of society and the environment in museums. Every day for a week, one of 15 museums will open their doors to pupils and teachers. For the first three days of the program museum received more than 4,000 students.

The cultural program includes the Heydar Aliyev Center, the Museum of Modern Art, the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan, the State Museum of Azerbaijani Carpet, the National Art Museum of Azerbaijan, the Historical and Architectural Reserve "Icherisheher", the Maiden Tower and the Shirvanshah Palace complex, the museum of miniature books, the house-museum of Tahir Salakhov, the State Historical-Ethnographic Reserve Gala Archeological-Ethnographic Museum Complex Gala, the Museum of antique dishes Gala, the Gala fortress, the State Museum of Musical Culture of Azerbaijan and the Museum of Natural History named after Hasan Bey Zardabi.
