An annual concert of young national folk music mugham performers, titled "Younger mugham" has been held at Heydar Aliyev Palace in Baku.

Culture and Tourism Ministry organized the concert, which was dedicated to the Azerbaijani Youth Day in the frame of the festival "Voice of Youth".

An exhibition of works by young artists Ayan Aziz, Samira Rasulova, Dilafruz Bagirova, Djasara Mamedova and Aynur Mammadova was held on the sidelines of the event.

The traditional annual project "Younger mugham" is headed by People's Artist, Professor Mansum Ibragimov and honored artists Elchin Hashimov and Elnur Akhmedov.

Speaking at the concert rector of Azerbaijan National Conservatory, People's Artist Siyavush Karimi and Mansum Ibragimov informed in detail about the project, which expands year to year.

The music project involves winners of previous mugham contests held since 2005 as well as young singers. Fifty-one khanende (singer) in the age groups from 12 to 36 years performed at the fifth concert of the project.

Students of the Azerbaijan National Conservatory, as well as music college functioning under the Conservatory and well-known masters of the art participated in the concert.

This year, the performances were presented not only in the form of concert and duets, but also in the form of theatrical composition. The concert glorified with music from "Leyla and Majnun", "Ashiq Garib", "Asli and Kerem", and "Shah Ismail" operas.

Azerbaijani mugham, which entered world cultural heritage at the beginning of the last century, was recognized mugham as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2003.
