Baku to host Maiden Tower art festival
International art festival ``Maiden Tower`` will be held in Baku on May 17-19 on the initiative of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, according to the Foundation.
The annual festival, intended to promote the Maiden Tower in the world, which is one of the symbols of Azerbaijan`s capital included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, will be attended by well-known artists from 18 countries worldwide. It will be jointly organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art, ``Maiden Tower`` Art Gallery and Icherisheher State Historical-Architectural Reserve.
By decorating the Maiden Tower models with patterns in national style, participants of the third such art festival will create works that reflect synthesis of different cultures and national traditions.
Gazelle models will be presented at the festival for the first time this year to draw attention to the ``Caucasian Big Five`` animals, which are on the brink of extinction, as part of the IDEA environmental campaign. They will be decorated by artists who attended previous contests and are now friends of the festival.
Another feature of this year`s festival will be introduction of video-mapping technology at the Maiden Tower. At the closing ceremony of the festival, colorful images will be recreated on the walls of the Maiden Tower by projecting tower models created at the previous festivals and relevant to architecture of the historical monument.
Modern post-production video technology will be used while creating the images. 30 projectors will be directed from seven different points in order to get circular 360-degree images on the walls of the Maiden Tower. Residents and visitors of Baku will be able to see these colorful images until May 29.
So far, over 40 painters from numerous countries have attended Maiden Tower festivals.
In addition to familiarizing international artists with Azerbaijan`s art and culture, the festival also contributes to promoting the Maiden Tower in the world.
Unique works created within the project have been already displayed in France and Italy and presented to the local public.
