Socar announced Eurovision partner

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has announced Azerbaijan`s state oil company Socar, one of the leading oil companies in the world, as an Official Partner of the Eurovision song contest to be held in Baku on May 26, eurovision.tv website said.

``We are glad to welcome Socar as an Official Partner for this year`s Eurovision Song Contest in Baku. We are looking forward to a good co-operation in the months to come and, with their support, a great contest in May,`` said Jorgen Franck, TV Director ad interim of the EBU.

Socar is involved in oil and gas exploration, production and refining as well as marketing petroleum and petrochemical products in domestic and international markets.

``Socar is very pleased to be one of the main partners of Eurovision Song Contest 2012 to be held in Azerbaijan,`` Socar President Rovnag Abdullayev said. ``We will do our best to host the contest at the highest level and to ensure that the participants and guests of our country are fully satisfied with the days spent in Baku.``

As an Official Partner for 2012, Socar has been granted extensive pan-European media, association, event and new media rights for the upcoming events in Azerbaijan.

The Eurovision 2012 semi-finals will be held on May 22 and 24, and the final on May 26.

The Baku Crystal Hall, which is under construction near the National Flag Square, will host the Eurovision song contest. The facility has 23,000 seats, and another 16,000 viewers will be able to watch the semifinals and the final on large monitors.

Azerbaijan won the right to host the prestigious European song contest after the victory of Eldar Gasimov and Nigar Jamal (Ell/Nikki) at Eurovision 2011 in Dusseldorf, Germany last May.

Eurovision has a rich tradition and heritage, dating back to 1956. It is one of the few truly pan-European television programs transmitted live via the Eurovision satellite network, in prime time on free-to-air television, as well as online. The three shows attract a total of over 100 million viewers throughout Europe and beyond.
