Pomegranate festival in Azeri region to draw foreign visitors

BAKU – An annual event featuring pomegranate products will be held in Azerbaijan on Friday and attended by 40 foreign visitors for the first time.

The festival to be organized by the executive authorities in Goychay, 226 km west of the capital Baku, will feature an exhibition of pomegranates and their products, as well as various contests and games. Participants will have the opportunity to see hand-made pomegranate juice, sauces and other products, and Goychay’s biggest pomegranate harvested this year. The festival will conclude with performances by Azerbaijan’s masters of art and fireworks.

Invitations to the festival were made in an extraordinary fashion. Volunteers of IRELI (Forward) Public Union, along with formal invitations, delivered pomegranate baskets to the diplomatic missions based in Azerbaijan.

Pomegranates have been grown in nearly all regions of Azerbaijan throughout history. But the dry subtropical Shirvan zone, which includes Goychay, is considered the most suitable region for growing the best types of this fruit. Juice producers mainly use pomegranates grown in Goychay. These fruits are known around the world for their taste and quality.
